my contract with you
A lot of people, myself included, have been hugely disappointed with the way many MPs have acted during the current expenses scandal. Details of the expenses rightly infuriated many. As a Parliamentary candidate I want to make it clear that I will not play the system. I will not bend the rules. I will not break the law. I will abide by the standards that politicians expect others to live by and that you rightly expect your MP to live up to. I have therefore written a commitment to you about what I will do if elected to Parliament.
- I will only claim for what's necessary to do the job of member of Parliament for Cheltenham. I will only use any allowances to cover my costs and not as a top-up to a salary
- I will publish my salary and expenses online detailing all of my person expenses incurred as your Member of Parliament
- I will publish online all details of my office expenses incurred as your member of Parliament
- I will not use the staffing allowance to employ any members of my family
- I will never claim for food
- I will never claim for furniture or household goods
- I will open up my unedited expenses to the local Press at the end of every financial year
- I will hold regular public meetings at which Cheltenham residents can question me about my performance, my voting record and my expenses.
